Galaxy Note 7: My impressions!
Samsung is undoubtedly one of the super premium smartphone manufacturers out there. Their new galaxy Note 7 was unveiled on 2nd august as I mentioned earlier, and I was super excited, as usual!😅. I've seen all there is to see during the launch and these are my thoughts about what's new on the premium new galaxy Note 7.
Design wise, galaxy note series has seen its biggest change yet as the note 7 has dual edge displays now. So basically it's a hybrid- A galaxy S7 edge with an S pen!
The overall form factor remains pretty much the same with a huge 5.7' QHD AMOLED display just like the earlier note 5. But it's a bit smaller in It's footprint than its older version.
It has the same camera sensor from the S7, same RAM size at 4 gigs and the same Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890 processor. It has expandability, of course, up to 256 GB and also the same super fast fingerprint sensor from the S7/edge. Many, including myself, thought that we would see the newer, faster Snapdragon 823 here. Oh well, it's still blazing fast so, whatever.
What's new for the note line, is the IP68 certification that comes with the note 7. So it's fully submersible up to 1½ m depth for an hour! Even with the S pen taken out! That's something really well thought out. Speaking of the S pen, it's been redesigned so it won't go in to the housing backwards. It was a major complaint in the note 5 that if you put the S pen backwards, you're done😲. No more S pen features for you. Even if you replace the pen, the port wouldn't work at all. But now, thankfully that's been taken care of! It's more accurate than the previous S pen, with a more precise 0.6 mm tip. It has a new feature where you can select a portion of a video that is playing on the screen and create an instant GIF! That's kinda fun to have. Don't know how much it'll be used though.
Also, this has earned the position as the first ever Samsung phone to feature a USB type-C reversible port. We're unfortunately still stuck on Qualcomm's quick charge 2.0, but at least were seeing some progress with newer version ports! Yay! for Samsung!
Another thing I really like about the note 7 is the iris scanner. I know, I know, Samsung is the king of gimmicks. I thought this will be just another Samsung "smart" feature. You know, the one which never works. But I was dead wrong! It's actually works really well! It has a dedicated IR sensor up front to scan your eye pattern. It was slow at first but surprisingly, it kept getting faster and faster the more it was used to unlock the phone. Since the sensor uses infrared light, it even recognizes you with goggles on! And of course, in the dark. I'll have to find out a bit more about this iris scanner thingy before I can remark how well it works on the long run. But based on what I've seen till now, this thing's a masterpiece.
