LeEco Le 2 review
It's all the rage about these guys now, isn't it. LeEco, the company that started the 3GB RAM/32GB storage standards in Indian budget smartphone market. I've already posted my thoughts on their flagship the le max 2. Its here in case you didn't know😒. Now let's take a look at It's younger sibling, the LeEco le 2.
Design: Seeing the success of its predecessor le 1s, it shouldn't be a surprise to see the same all aluminium body on the le 2. This time there phone has got a protruding camera and a more flat back than the slightly curved top and bottom edges of the le 1s. The phone remains at the same thickness of 7.5mm bit had got a bit lighter at 153gm. There are 3 color variants available: gray silver and rose-gold. Build quality is excellent as always, leaving a very premium and well finished feel in the hand.
Display: The phone has a 5.5' 1080p IPS LCD display at 401ppi. There doesn't seem to be any sort of protection on top. The display is vivid and plenty bright for outdoor visibility. The viewing angles are good as it's an IPS panel. The colors are a bit on the warmer side, so whites look a tad bit yellowish. But it's of no major concern as you'll barely notice it. It's a very good display and will not disappoint you for the price.
Performance: Quite impressive specs here. The phone runs on a deca core Mediatek Helio X20 processor clocked at 2GHz and a Mali T880 MP4 GPU asking with 3GB of DDR3 RAM. This is one of the first smartphones to have 10 cores under the hood and thankfully, it seems stable😅✌. It did get slightly hot during gaming but didn't exhibit any throttling or stuttering because of the heat. The gameplay was smooth and stutter free for the most part. Around 1GB of RAM is available out of 3 gigs, and it handles multitasking quite well. There's 32GB of non expandable onboard storage out of which you get around 24GB free to use. That should be enough for most users and then again, there's Google drive cloud storage. It's about time we start using it, don't you think?😅.
The UI is a refined version of that you saw on the le 1s. Running on top of Android marshmallow, it's unique and out of the book approach takes some getting used to. But it's pretty smooth and very reliable. No fatal app crashes or freezes were seen during the usage. They're constantly pushing or OTA updates to fix any remaining bugs. So even if there are any issues that need to be fixed, they're on it.
The rear mounted fingerprint sensor is much faster than the le 1s. It's very accurate and faster at unlocking your phone on recognition. It works surprisingly well even when you're fingers are a bit wet. That's something we don't see very often. Well done LeEco!
Camera: The phone has a 16 mp rear camera with a CMOS sensor of f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. The front camera is a 5 mp sensor capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. The camera sensors are quite good, images come out to be rich in details and are well saturated. White balance and exposure take some time kick in, but it's fine. It only happens in challenging lighting conditions for a smartphone camera. The selfies come out to be nice and crisp, but sometimes tend to lack a bit of details. Even though the rear camera is a 16 megapixels large sensor, the software doesn't allow you to zoom in a lot, just like a vibe UI on a Lenovo phone. It doesn't matter as pictures are pretty good, but it seemed worth sharing.
Battery: The phone houses a 3000 mAh battery. The phone is equipped with a USB type-C port, and is capable of quick charging. Battery life has been great, lasting easily a day even in heavy usage. You can easily get around 4½ hours of continuous screen on time. Battery test shows charging speed as 0-75% within an hour, which is impressive. So you can file charge in about 1½ hours.
Price: This is the cherry on top for all the sweetness you've read above. The phone retails for just 12,000 INR. You get a great looking one with very nice displays and a fast deca core processor and an above average camera. Totally worth it over a lot of others you were thinking of buying😜👍.
